When you grew up, what kind of music did you listen to and what are your main influences?

I was inspired and influenced by trumpeters Maynard Ferguson, Miles Davis
and Dizzy Gillsespie. I also listened to New Orleans ands Dixieland style
music.

Did you play any other instruments other than trumpet when you grew up?

No

Can you tell me something about what you did before you joined Blood, Sweat and Tears.

I worked with Maynard Ferguson Buddy Rich and Louie Bellson after leaving
Berklee School of Music

How did you get the opportunity to join?

Tony Klatka who had been my roomate in Boston called me.

Did you join before or after David returned to the band?

I joined at the same time David returned.

How was the atmosphere in the band, was there any leaders?

The atmosphere was fun, We had a good time. I would say Bobby Colomby was the leader

I really like New City. Can you tell me something from the recording of the album. How was the songs choosen?

We recorded New City at Bobbys house in New City. (This explains the title)
I think we recorded over several months. The tunes were submitted to the
producer by the guys in the band who were writing. Also the producer Jimmy
Ienner may have suggested some songs.

You were also part of the band when the liverecord ³In concert² was recorded. It was later released in the U.S
as ³Live And Improvised². Was there much improvisation on stage at the liveconcerts or was it rehearsed?

Basically everything was just as we would play on all our other gigs.

What do you appreciate most from your time in B,S&T?

It was a thrill to play with great players like Tony Klatka,Ron Mclure,
Larry Willis, Jaco Pastorious, Mike Stern, Don Alias and Bobby Colomby.

What was the main reason for you to leave?

We had a parting of ways.

Do you have any contact with other former members?

I am very good friends with Lew Soloff and work with him sometimes in NYC.We
worked together for almost a month in Japan with the Mannhatten Jazz Orchestra.

Can you tell me something about what you have been doing after the B,S&T-years.

I worked with Liza Minelli,Frank Sinatra,Mel Torme. Joni Mitchell in the years after.

What are your plans for the future?

I am currently working in NYC playing Broadway shows. I travel overseas
several, times a year to do Jazz gigs and studio work. I am enjoying the New
York music scene very much.

Thank you and good luck in the future.
